Centre for High Technologies in Medicine
The Centre conducts interdisciplinary research in medicine, cell and molecular biology, protein biochemistry, microscopy, chromatography, chemistry, and physics.
The Centre aims at addressing global scientific challenges in medicine, developing innovative approaches for prevention, early diagnosis, and effective treatment, and using fundamental scientific advances to find ways to save humankind from social diseases.
The Centre works with medical devices for minimally invasive surgery and lost function recovery; with medical supplies; with diagnostic and visualization systems; and with drugs and drug delivery systems.

Laboratory for Simulation of Physical Processes in Biology and Medicine
Development of new methods of biological and physical and mathematical modeling of human brain vestibular apparatus, using high capacity systems and technologies aimed at acquirement of the new knowledge about vestibular dysfunction and for the improvement of method and means of vestibular implantation.
Results of the fundamental and applied research of the laboratory play significant role in future technical development and clinical use of the vestibular implants. They will lead to the improvement in patients’ quality of life and prolongation of the period of full capability of elderly people with age-related vestibular dysfunction.
Laboratory for Medical Alloys and Shape Memory Implants
Creation of the new class of medical alloys with shape memory meeting the requirements of biochemical and biomechanical compatibility and satisfying a higher level of medical and technical requirements. Development of the monolith and porous materials with shape memory on the basis of titanium nickelide. Working on the new generation of implants on the basis of titanium nickelide.
Implanted materials and implants with shape memory on the basis of titanium nickelide are designed for the wide spectrum of medical objectives: dentistry, surgery, ophthalmology, vascular surgery, oncology and other medical spheres.
Laboratory for Medical Materials Science
Development and research of hybrid materials that have maximal biological compatibility with human organism for medical use.
The work of the laboratory is aimed at creation of a brand new class of ceramic implants for spinal surgery. Their essential difference from the implants currently used in practical medicine is the presence of bioconvergent characteristics, namely structure that ensures contact osteogenesis and accelerated integration in the "implant-bone" system and biomechanical affinity with bone tissue.
Laboratory for Neurobiology
Top-level research on the wide spectrum of biomedical directions in the spheres of neurosciences, including regenerative medicine, selection of new medicines and development of new non-invasive methods of diagnostics.
Scientific knowledge on the regulation of the adult brain neurogenesis will open essentially new possibilities for the therapy of socially important diseases – Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases, cerebral stroke, trauma, disseminated sclerosis, and dementia.
Laboratory for Human Ontogenetics
Fundamental and applied research on the revealing the patterns of genetic pool evolution in human populations in connection with genome and post-genome mechanisms of some complex diseases pathogenesis.
Received and expected results can be used for translation of genetic data to medicine, formation of complex programs of diagnostics and prophylaxis for region or ethno specific diseases on model populations, development and implementation of molecular-genetic test systems for analysis of markers associated with widespread diseases on the modern high tech platforms (biochips, epigenetics, next generation high capacity sequenation).
Laboratory for Biophotonics
Research and creating:
– the basis for high definition visualization of inner human structure;
– principles for contactless diagnostics of diseases;
– bases of minimally invasive surgery of biotissues using femtosecond lasers.
Laboratory for Translational Cell and Molecular Biomedicine
Laboratory for Medical Plants, Phytochemistry and Experimental Pharmacology
Conducting the research on the wide range of modern medical issues, aiming at production of original antitumoral, antimetastatic, hemoreologic, cardioprotective, nootropic, antiulcer preparations on the basis of material from introduced plants and extracted biologically active entities. Research results can be used in the therapy of socially important diseases.
Laboratory of Superfine Material Biosafety
Development of methodology and methods of determination and quantitative assessment of biological danger of nanomaterials and nanoparticles. Research on the possibility and danger of translocation of nanoparticles in the organism via food chains.

The Master's Program “Data Mining and Bioinformatics” is a unique pilot program, developed in accordance with the innovative strategy of TSU. A key difference of this program from the traditional ones is its distinct interdisciplinary nature. This master's program is absolutely new to Siberia for now.
The main goal of this program is to train professionals in data mining and applied aspects of bioinformatics who are in high demand for carriers both in science and business.
Three key features of this program are:

unique pilot program, created within the “road map” of Tomsk State University development program;

focusing on forming teams of deficient multi-disciplinary specialists in the field of computer science, information technologies, applied math and also applied aspects of bioinformatics;
